Full-Spectrum CBD: How the Entourage Effect Works

The entourage effect and why it matters.

Not all CBD oils are alike. CBD (or cannabidiol) is just one of hundreds of different cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa (hemp) plant. Full-spectrum extracts preserve all of them — trace THC included — for a more complete therapeutic effect.

Full Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate

Full-Spectrum CBD extracts retain a diverse range of cannabinoids and plant compounds, presenting an amber/brownish hue with an earthy, slightly sweet flavour. They contain all the naturally occurring cannabinoids in the hemp plant with 0.3% THC or less.

CBD Isolate contains only pure CBD, devoid of other cannabinoids. There is zero THC in any isolate-based product.

The Entourage Effect

A more important difference between full-spectrum CBD and isolates is the entourage effect. By leaving more of the natural plant compounds intact — traces of other cannabinoids and terpenes — you get a more effective overall impact from the CBD.

Research into the entourage effect suggests that cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds may work better together than any single compound does alone. By keeping the natural hemp plant composition intact, full-spectrum CBD preserves those relationships — which may account for a stronger and more well-rounded effect compared to CBD isolate.
